Sinterklaas Borrel

On a clear day you can see a trail of steam travelling up the Waal. When you are home alone you can hear the faint sound of hooves on rooftiles. In the morning you put on your shoes to find them suddenly filled with candy. These are the telltale signs that one of the cornerstones of Dutch culture is on his way again.

For years now Sinterklaas travels all the way from Spain on his steamboat to celebrate his birthday with us in the Netherlands. Together with his helpers he visits us at night to brings gifts to those that are good and punishes those that are bad. Filling the shoes of children with pepernoten and putting evil children in the sack to bring with him to Spain. Speaking of evil children, if you have any stories about your fellow students, don't forget to fill in the registration form or send them to bigbookofsantaclaus@thalia.nu

Borrels are a moment where students can be themselves and show their best side. To show Sinterklaas how good we all are, we are going to celebrate the birthday of the Goedheiligman during this borrel. We can only hope that the boat has not yet departed back to Spain. Maybe Sinterklaas is going to grace his favorite study association with a visit. Where good people can be rewarded with candy or some refreshments and bad people punished to put them in their place.
