Lunch lecture Ortec

NS, the Dutch Railways, is the principal railway operator in the Netherlands and one of our customers. NS runs 4.800 scheduled domestic trains a day, serving 1.1 million passengers a day. In order to provide good service to these passengers, NS aims at creating a timetable that fulfils the passenger demand and to operate smoothly according to that timetable. To achieve this goal, amongst others, the following questions have to be answered:

-          Which lines do we operate with which frequency?

-          Which physical train will be used for a train service?

-          Where do the trains "sleep" at night?

ORTEC manages some of the engines and software modules that NS planners use to answer these questions.

During this presentation, we want to share with you how the planning process at NS works and what ORTEC is contributing to it.
